What is an ATV?

An ATV is an all-terrain vehicle that is also referred to as a “quad” or a “four-wheeler”. These vehicles come in two different categories: type I, single passenger vehicles that can make nimble turns and maneuver tough terrain such as woods and fields; and type II, dual-passenger vehicles designed by the manufacturer to accommodate the driver and a passenger.  This vehicle traditionally used a straddle seat and a handlebar steering system, along with a 4-stroke engine.

What can I use it for?

ATVs can be used for a multitude of tasks. The most popular of uses are pulling small farm equipment such as tillers, lawn mowers, and plows; other uses for an ATV could be hauling campers, maneuvering woods, or for fun.

Do I have options?

Polaris has four different categories of Sportsman ATVs to choose from to meet a myriad needs: recreational and utility, big bore & performance, 2-up, and youth. Each category then further breaks down into personal preference, needs, and sizes.

What is a UTV?

A UTV is a utility terrain vehicle. A UTV can also be called a side-by-side because it has two or more seats to fit multiple passengers. These vehicles have more features than an ATV, including a roll cage, occasional windshield and a bed attached to the back of the vehicle. Most companies use a steel frame for their bed, but Polaris uses a plastic composite box to prevent dents and rust. Along with more seating this vehicle is maneuvered by a steering wheel and gas pedal system.

How does it compare to an ATV?

UTV’s are generally used in a working or business environment that needs a heavier duty terrain vehicle. Along with a larger capacity of people and ability to tow larger loads UTV’s can become street legal and utilized for odd jobs such as policing parks and emergency vehicles.

What types are there?

Polaris offers a wide variety of UTV’s including the RZR, Ranger, and Ace. The Polaris RZR has four categories: trail, high performance, multi-passenger, and youth. The Polaris Ranger provides three categories to choose from: 2-passenger, full size, and multi-passenger. The Polaris Ace has three vehicles available to choose from: the Ace, Ace 570, and Ace 570 sp.
